One of the Most Inspiring Students I’ve Ever Coached
One of the most unforgettable students I’ve ever coached came all the way from Nepal.
She had never seen the ocean before.
She couldn’t swim.
Everything about surfing was completely new to her—the waves, the tides, the salt water, even wearing a wetsuit.
When she arrived, she looked at the Atlantic Ocean with a mixture of excitement and fear.
She honestly didn’t believe she would ever be able to surf.
So we started with the basics.
There was no pressure.
No rushing.
Just learning step by step, building confidence every single day.
By the end of the week something incredible happened.
She was catching waves by herself, standing up with confidence and smiling from ear to ear.
Watching that transformation reminded me why I love teaching surfing.
It wasn’t about becoming the best surfer.
It was about discovering that she was capable of much more than she believed.
So…
Can you really learn to surf in one week?
My answer is:
Absolutely.

Everyone Learns at Their Own Pace
Some people stand up during their first lesson.
Others need several sessions before everything starts to click.
Both are completely normal.
Learning to surf isn’t about talent.
It’s about spending enough time in the water, receiving good coaching and understanding how the ocean works.

Why One Week Works So Well
A single lesson is a fantastic introduction.
A full week allows you to build on each session.
Every day you gain:
- More confidence.
- Better balance.
- Improved paddling.
- Better timing.
- A deeper understanding of the ocean.
Those small improvements quickly add up.

Small Groups Make a Huge Difference
At St Girons Surf House we keep our coaching groups small.
Maximum 8 surfers.
That means every surfer receives personal feedback throughout the session.
Instead of trying to copy everyone else, you’ll understand exactly what you need to improve.

Learning Beyond the Waves
Surfing isn’t only about standing up.
Throughout the week we also teach:
- Ocean awareness
- Reading waves
- Surf etiquette
- Safety
- Choosing the right board
- Positioning in the lineup
Understanding these fundamentals helps you continue progressing long after your holiday ends.
Video Analysis Speeds Up Your Progress
One of the most valuable sessions during our Surf Retreat is video analysis.
Seeing yourself surf often reveals small details that are impossible to notice while you’re in the water.
Sometimes one simple correction completely changes your surfing.

Why Saint Girons Is Perfect for Learning
Saint Girons offers long sandy beaches, consistent beach breaks and plenty of space in the water.
Because we adapt every lesson to the tide and ocean conditions, beginners can learn safely while intermediate surfers continue progressing.
More Than Just Surf Lessons
At St Girons Surf House we don’t just teach surfing.
We share a lifestyle.
Morning surf checks.
Breakfast together.
Daily coaching.
Video analysis.
Beach volleyball.
Sunsets.
New friendships.
It’s an experience that many of our guests remember long after they’ve gone home.
